Legendary singer Asha Bhosle, who has
lent her voice to numerous memorable and melodious ghazals, says ghazal can be
revived whenever written in simple Hindi as the younger generation discovers
Urdu somewhat complicated.
"The little youngsters and young ladies can relate to emotions and feelings, reflected through ghazals (a lyric poem), whenever written in simple Hindi," she said.
Speaking to IANS uninvolved of the
Raymond MTV India Music Summit, she stated, "Ghazals are generally written
in Urdu and to sing that one needs a proper old-style base."
"The era of Urdu seems to be
eliminating as the youthful generation doesn't understand and couldn't relate
to its deep and meaningful words. Making the language simple and to retain the
contemporariness is what's required today to bring back the lost legacy of
ghazals," she said.
With simple language, the in-depth
emotions and feelings of ghazals could be kept alive, she said.
To substantiate her views, the
legendry singer cites an example. "Imagine a word 'takalluf' (custom or
restrained behavior). Today's generation will never understand this. They can't
understand its meaning. Hence, ghazals need to be written in a language which
can be understood by people everything being equal," said the veteran
playback singer who has sung several ghazals.
Expressing that practice of old-style
singing is an absolute necessity to become a legendary singer, Asha Bhosle
advised new-age singers "to learn traditional music and practice it on a
consistent note".
On the present-day music, she said it
couldn't be termed authentic. "People are not understanding what's really
deep music. Those who have understood are attempting to bring it back and I am
representing the cause with them. Also, hence I am here at this
culmination," she said.
Such events ought to be organized at
different places of India to revive old-style music because it was the base for
music, she said and added, it (traditional base) helped her sing a wide range
of songs.
"In the event that we compare the
songs are sung by singers with an old-style foundation and the fresh pass-outs who
are attempting to sing songs sung by veterans, we don't discover the feelings
and emotions that come out from the one sung by Manna Dey, Lata Mangeshkar,
Kishore Kumar, and Mohammad Rafi," she said.
"A decent voice is an absolute
necessity to sing. However, then you need to realize how to express your
feelings. Imagine a singer singing 'Ghar Aaja Sanya'. On the off chance that
you have a correct note in your style to evoke emotions of bringing your lover
back home, then no one but you can make that tune alive. Also, to make a tune
alive, you need an intensive old-style base," she said.
Expressing her love for Rajasthan,
Asha Bhosle stated, "This state is so beautiful with rich palaces.
Actually, Jaipur and Jodhpur consistently fascinated me," said the diva of
film music.
